Post-9/11 GI Bill
Verified- Education
- Government Benefits
- Family
Tuition, housing, and book money for school, and you can pass it to your family.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill covers up to 36 months of education benefits. At public schools it pays full in-state tuition and fees; at private or foreign schools it pays up to a national cap (and the Yellow Ribbon program can close the gap). On top of tuition you get a monthly housing allowance based on your school's zip code (roughly the E-5-with-dependents BAH rate) plus a yearly stipend of up to $1,000 for books and supplies. If you have served long enough, you can transfer unused benefits to a spouse or kids, though transferring adds a 4-year service commitment.
Military Benefit
Full in-state tuition, monthly housing allowance, and up to $1,000/yr for books; transferable to dependents
How to Claim
Apply through the VA at va.gov. To transfer benefits to dependents, set it up in milConnect before you separate and meet the added service commitment.
