Many states offer zero or reduced state income tax for military.

States have very different tax rules when it comes to military pay. Some states have no state income tax for anyone. Most states do have income tax, but many either don’t tax military pay at all or let you exclude it if you’re stationed somewhere other than your legal residence. Look into what your state does and consider changing your state of residence to lower or eliminate the state tax you pay.
